Animated WSR-88 Local Radar

WSR88 Radar equipment makes up NOAAs Doppler system strategically placed around the US to provide high resolution coverage of precipitation events.

This WSR88 Local Radar application allows you to display any of these local Radars located in the continental US, providing you with animated, full color imagery typically no more than 5 to 10 minutes old.

Each local Radar display has overlays that when appropriate show projected Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm tracks plus Flash Flood warning areas. And on east, west and gulf coasts, they also show Special Marine Warning boundaries.

Intended for people who travel, pilots, mariners and storm chasers, this application is national in scope. It allows the user to drill down from the national map into each of NOAAs WSR88 Radar sites.

That said, if youre only interested in one or two Radar sites, this application will also serve you well since its as easy to access one or two sites from your home town as it is to check multiple sites as you travel.

The application is intended to be used on devices running O.S. 7. The reason is youll undoubtedly want to zoom and pan the image and only O.S. 7 devices have the processor power to handle the graphical vector manipulation required to reproduce WSR88 imagery properly.

The application is extremely simple to use: Just click on the WSR88 apps icon, click the Run button on the apps home page and then click on the national Radar map in the appropriate area to call up the local Radar of your choice. Thats all there is to it.

Use the zoom and pan capabilities of your Torch, Bold or Curve 3G and youll see amazing detail of the storms plus warning overlays. Geographic boundaries, counties, cities and major roads help you orient yourself versus the location, speed and direction of travel of the storms.

NOTE: This application allows selection of local NOAA Doppler Radars by clicking on a National Radar map. It does not provide a way to store a single site.
